Hasland CFC U18s - Matlock Gladiators
Under 15s - League
Finally the spring seems to arrived and it was a great morning for grassroots football. Our u15s were at home this weekend up against as familiar foe in Matlock Town Gladiators. It fair to say both teams are in the hunt to win the league this season so today was going to be a hot contest.
We lost to these 4-1 only a few weeks ago so we were looking for an improvement in this one and fresh from booking a place in a cup final last weekend our lads didn't disappoint.
It was always going to be a fairly even game and the first 10- 15 minutes found both teams sizing each other up. It was Hasland however who delivered the first blow with a free kick wide out on the left in the 15th minute. With Jensons trusty left foot he swung in an absolute belter to the far post and Cole arrived right on que to smash his volley into the top of the net. A goal of season contender for sure. 1-0
Hasland looked comfortable at this point and were spending more time in the Matlock half than their own however on 31 minutes Matlock broke and scored from a shot low into the bottom corner from the edge of the penalty area. A valiant effort from James to block the shot was inches away. 1-1
The second half saw no more goals however Hasland had a perfectly good goal disallowed for offside despite the Hasland lad being clearly onside (wheres VAR when you need it). Matlock also created some good chances of their own but in all fairness a draw was probably the right result.
We asked for improvement from every player and that's exactly what we got. The Hasland lads have done themselves proud once again and inparticular Man of the Match Aidan who put in a class performance in central midfield.
Next week we go on our travels again this time to bottom side Sleetmoor. Let's hope this nice weather is here to stay. We'll done again u15s!
